Only my child...

Drew is still learning what all of the things in his Pretend Doctor's kit do and how to play with them.

He takes the fake shot and puts in his stomach!!!  He sees his dad do this every day with his insulin.  Poor kid thinks that is where shots go and thinks it is no big deal.

Kiss the Girls....

Drew is starting to get a cold.  Runny nose, cough and all.  This afternoon I cuddled up on the couch with him to watch a movie.  Well, I decided that Drew needed to watch Disney movies other than Cars and Toy Story, Finding Nemo and Toy Story 2.   So I put in The Little Mermaid.

He is now running around singing "Kiss the Girls"

of all phrases to pick up out of the movie....

Uncle Maaaaatt!

So, my brother, Drew's Uncle Matt, got Drew a Notre Dame Jersey for Christmas.  I had it picked out for Drew to wear today.  I made the mistake of saying, "Let's put Uncle Matt's Shirt on".  So my child thinks we are going to see Uncle Matt.  He runs to the front door waiting for me and says "Uncle Matt, Uncle Matt".  Then as we are out and about, when we would stop some where he would get upset and say "Uncle Maaaatt!" and just cry because we weren't going to see Uncle Matt.  Poor boy.

On the flip side, it snowed a little AGAIN today.  I mean a LITTLE.  Notice Drew playing in the accumulation on the patio table.

To Infinity.......and Beyond!

Drew's favorite phrase right now.  Of course he wants to scream it as he jumps off of the couch.  He also will scream it randomly in stores

His Uncle Matt got him started with this while playing with a Buzz Lightyear toy with him over Christmas.

Snow Day

There is No School Today.  There is about a half inch of snow out there.  So funny to think that down here they close school for this.  Okay, well they do close school here when there is even a chance of snow, but the real reason today was the ice.  Late this morning we started to get ice.  It is supposed to be almost 50 degrees tomorrow, but I anticipate Drew not having school again tomorrow.  If school is open they will probably have a delay and if there is a 2 hour delay he won't have school at all.

Drew looked out the window this morning and said "Monny, Make Snow Man!"  Poor kid, he didn't understand why there wasn't enough snow to make a snowman.

How was School Today?

I ask him every day, how School was today.  Drew just ignores me.  He is doing so much better with his speech, but still can't answer most questions.  He is starting to be able to make "choice" decisions.  But asking how he is, what's wrong, his name, etc.  still seems to be a long way off.  I have to remind myself how far we have come since October.

FRIEND

Drew's memory amazes me.  I can't believe some of the things that he remembers.  He seems to have memorized the spelling of some words.  One of which is Friend.  He can recognize it and read it, and he can just spell it to you.  It is just amazing!

Did he just say.....

MOMMY?

I think he did!!!  I swear I heard Drew say Mommy, not Monny.  When I picked him up from school today, I swear he said "It's Mommy"  Since we got home he has called me Monny.  But I was SO SO excited!   Maybe he is starting to get it, or maybe I am hearing things.

Kachow!

Today I was reminded of the talents of many kids with autism.  It is really such a blessing to watch him grow.  I know Drew has an amazing memory, but today I really saw some of what he is capable of.

Drew has an obsession with the Cars movie, as do many little boys.  He lined up a bunch of his cars in a semi-circle in the kitchen floor and had one of his Lightening McQueen Cars in the middle.  He caught me off guard becuase out of no-where, he started saying NONONO YESYESYES, I am Lightening McQueen, and on and on.  There were a lot of words that I didn't understand, but all of the pitches and tones were almost perfect.  He was reenacting the WHOLE scene from the Cars movie where lightening gets in front of the rusty cars and talks about Rusteeze.

It is just amazing because he can't hold a conversation with you, but he can repeat a whole scene from a movie.

Milk Wars

Since we don't have a doctor's note for Drew to have milk substitued with Juice at school, I have to provide the substitute.  I have been on a search for the single serve soy milks.  I found some, and it was $3.89 for a 3 pack!!!  NO WAY!  I can't afford this!  I need to find it in bulk somewhere, or I will be providing juice everyday.  I really don't want him to have juice every day though either, he will be a poopin machine.

First Day of School

Drew started Pre-K today.  My little boy is growing up.  He didn't seem to mind me leaving him there today so that made it easier.

I am such a bad mom.  The teachers probably think I am a total slacker.  Drew does not have a winter coat and it was freezing out this morning.  I normally just layer him up and put a hat and mittens on, not to mention by the time I have him out during the day it is a lot warmer than it is at 8am.   So we don't normally need one.   The poor kid needs a backpack too.  They have to have one that is big enough to fit a folder in it.  He has a couple small backpacks but you would have to fold the folder to fit in.

Off to buy a coat and a back pack..... Now where to find them this time of year...
